About the Project

PawMatch is an innovative app created to build a community for city dog owners, facilitating playdates for their pets. This addresses the crucial need for socialization and supports mental well-being. In urban settings, where dogs often face loneliness due to their owners' busy schedules, PawMatch provides a solution. It counters the limited social interaction and physical activity urban dogs receive from brief city walks. Since early socialization is essential for preventing behavioral issues and promoting a dog's overall well-being, PawMatch serves as a vital tool in enhancing the quality of life for urban canines.

Challenges Faced by Urban Dog Owners

  • Awareness Gap: Many owners are not fully aware of their dogs' needs for socialization and the potential mental health issues that can arise from isolation.

  • Finding Suitable Playmates: It's often difficult for owners to find appropriate playdates for their dogs due to limited resources and information.

  • Exploring Pet-Friendly Spaces: Busy schedules make it challenging for owners to discover nearby pet-friendly locations and creative routes for dog walking.

Possible Solutions

Based on the all the information collected through research and findings, I figured that an application will require following functionality to promote a healthy community

Primary Research on Dog Socialization

Research Techniques:

  • Quick interviews with dog owners at parks.

  • Online Q&A surveys.

Key Findaways:

  1. Variation in Socialization Patterns: There are noticeable differences in socialization habits between small and large dogs.

  2. Safety Concerns: A primary concern among owners is the potential aggression their dogs might show when encountering other dogs.

  3. Information Gap: Many dog owners lack sufficient information and knowledge about the importance of pet socialization and mental well-being.

Secondary Research on Dog Owner Needs

Objective:

  • To develop user-centric solutions, I focused on understanding the real-life habits of dog owners and their pets during walks, analyzing primary needs through targeted interviews.

Insights and Concerns Identified:

  1. Finding Compatible Playmates: Often, several attempts are needed to find a suitable play date for dogs.

  2. Safety Risks: Potential dangers arise when dogs interact with other dogs, especially if aggressive behavior is displayed.

  3. Limited Outdoor Activities: Many dogs do not receive adequate playtime or outdoor exposure.

  4. Anxiety Around Strangers: Dogs can feel uneasy or unsafe around unfamiliar people.

  5. Need for More Social Interaction: Both dogs and owners benefit from increased socialization, ideally starting from a young age.

  6. Toy-Related Conflicts: Issues can arise from dogs fighting over toys.

  7. Loneliness: Dogs often feel unhappy when left alone.

  8. Attention Requirement: Dogs need consistent attention and engagement
